The bank holiday weekend is officially over and I have to admit I well and truly over indulged, but don't we all during the holidays?
What I always find important in life is learning from every event and situation, so here's a few things I've learned about my unhealthy living. Firstly what do I mean by 'over indulged' well I over ate 'unhealthy' foods mainly (sugar full and fatty foods), consumed much more alcohol than normal and did not exercise. Having started quite a strict regime almost 90 days ago of healthy eating and exercise, at first I found it a welcome break and in parts enjoyed my new found self indulgent way (ok it was only 4 days but it definitely had an impact).
It was the effects on my body that started my learning in the situation, firstly the skin on my hands began to dry up and crack (something that happened after giving birth to my babies but since my healthy living started it had got better and better), I also felt lethargic, my stomach was sore & bloated and I could literally see my body shape changing before my eyes.
I didn't fully appreciate the situation until I hit Tuesday morning which was when I had planned to get back on track, I started my healthy eating and noticed how hungry I had now become, my body seemed to be craving sugar, fatty foods and my skin really was very sore on my hands. My mental strength helped me through and I didn't give in to temptation, instead I recognised what was going on in my body and how I was feeling and decided to get back on track focusing firstly on my healthy eating. I found some 'yummy' healthy food ideas for my evening meal and some snack food recipes on Pinterest and I set aside a late night work out of cardio, muscle tone and weights. Did I see a difference? Physically no, but I know my body shape will start to reform over the next few days, I did notice I felt happier, my mind felt immediately clearer and I generally I felt good about myself. It did make me wonder why I had veered so far off track, after all I had done so well for the last 90 days. Old me might have given up the healthy living, but new me is different. I'm back on track with my healthy eating, two workouts done and I found the most yummy healthy snack I've had in ages. Another plus was that my daughters were able to make the snacks with me, which they absolutely loved... The treats contained no nasties and were quick and cheap to make, I hope you might try them. Here's the recipe: No Bake Oatmeal Energy Bites Ingredients: • 1 cup of rolled oats • 1/2 a cup of peanut butter (I like to substitute with almond butter for a change but peanut butter is fine) • 1/2 a cup of dark chocolate chips • 1/3 of a cup of honey • 1/4 of a cup of ground linseed (or substitute with flaxseed) How to: Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl, roll out a teaspoon of mix into small balls and place on baking paper. Place in freezer until set, approx for an hour. Then enjoy!! Leave leftovers in the fridge. Add other fruits and seeds to change up the recipe. Peace and love to you and yours.
