So you're having one of 'those' days, you know the ones, when nothing seems to be going right or you feel like you have too many things to handle.
Frustration? Anger? Low mood? The defeatist attitude starts to set in and you generally can't see the wood for the trees as they say! I use a little technique on days like these called the 60 second smile, I use it at the point when I recognise I'm in that 'out of control' moment, what I mean by this is when my emotion has completely taken over of me and I'm letting it rule the way I'm thinking or behaving. All situations become harder to deal with when we're not in the best emotional state, the situation remains the same its how we deal with it that's important. When you become overwhelmed by a situation it's easy to let the emotion surrounding it win and let yourself think there's no point, and it's in that moment you need to recognise your emotions. If you're not in a peak state (happy, driven, positive etc) chances are your emotions are low and it will be difficult to do anything positively. It's in that state you need to learn to do things to help you feel better or change your state of mind to be able to work more effectively with the situation. As I mentioned I use the 60 second smile, what is it I hear you scream... Ok maybe not scream but I'm sure your interested. Well it's exactly what it says on the tin, when you're in that state stop and SMILE (preferably on your own so you can really do a great big toothy grin and not look odd). If you are not on your own then a small smile will do! That smile will start to change the way you feel, I'm not sure if the mouth tells the brain "we're good, let's feel good" or that we're too busy smiling that the emotions starts to fade away. But I know it will lighten the situation for you, if you still feel bogged down just do another minute. Remember you are in control of you, even your emotions! I hope you have fun using this technique and hope it helps you as much as it has helped me. Peace and love to you and yours.
